Platos Apology Plato’s Apology is the story of the trial of Socrates, the charges brought against him and his maintaining of his own innocence throughout the process. At the onset of the trial, Socrates appears to challenging the charges, which included corrupting the youth, challenging belief in the gods that were accepted and reveled by the State, and introducing a new religious focus, but also belittles his own significance and suggesting that he will not attempt to disprove that he participated in the actions maintained by the court. In essence, Socrates appears almost self-effacing, and his defense surprises even his accuser, Meletus. But by the end of the Apology, Socrates becomes almost a different person,†¦show more content†¦Early in the Apology, Socrates argues that the charges of Meletus are not only false, but have led to the rise of prejudice against him, and he demonstrates this through what he considers his own reflection on the charges against him. Socrates sugge sts the indictment against him should read: â€Å"Socrates is guilty of engaging in inquiries into things beneath the earth and in the heaven, of making the weaker argument appear the stronger, and of teaching others the same things†. Socrates suggests that the breadth of the indictment against him could encompass the premises supported by many men, and that it is only through the prejudice against him, the belief in his wisdom purported by some, and the sense that Socrates has influenced men that has resulted in the charges, not through the true belief that Socrates has taken actions against the State. Perhaps it is the divided sentiments of the vote that impact Socrates, or perhaps just his realization that from the onset, he would have been condemned not matter what his arguments, but Socrates appears to transform himself after the votes are cast. History and heritage play a key role in the development and conclusion of this rather intriguing story. Although history and heritage are important, the driving factors of this story are the literary elements. The History Of Manchester United Football Club Manchester United is the biggest most famous football club not only in England but worldwide. It has the largest fan base in the world with over 50 million supporters. Newton Heath was a depot for the Lancashire and Yorkshire railways, and the club was set up as the workers football team. The team played on a small football pitch near Manchester Piccadilly station for 15 years before moving to Bank Street in 1893. During this time the club entered the football league of England and its links with the railways began to diminish they changed their name to Newton Heath F.C removing further links with the railways and appointed a club secretary. During their first few seasons in the football league the club accumulated sizeable debts amounting to over  £2500 and were on the brink of bankruptcy until a man named J H Davies the owner of the local breweries invested large amounts of money into the club and became the club chairman. To get a fresh start he changed the name from Newton Heath F.C to Manchester United F.C. The name Manchester United officially came into existence in September 1902. When Manchester united entered the football leagues for the first time in 1902 their chairman J H Davies changed the clubs colours from green and gold of Newton Heath to the now famous red and white. His next step was to appoint a club secretary that would guide the club from the second division up into the first division. He appointed a man called Ernst Mangnall to do the job. After his first season in charge he helped united to finish in fifth position although it was a good season they failed to get promoted. The new secretary thought that the only way that they could compete at the highest level was if they bought new players. They bought four top class players one of which was a club record of  £750 to try and get into the first division. They didnt have to wait long as they gained promotion two seasons later in the 1905-06 season. The long list of Manchester united silverware began in 1907 were they won the first division, and in 1908 they won the charity shield and the first of their record number 11 FA cups. As a result of their huge success and all the revenue that followed their moved into their new stadium in old Trafford. With this huge success came trouble when the man who brought the club to the top of the league left and joined bitter rivals Manchester city. This was the start of a dark era in the history of Manchester united the club got relegated back to division two and things got really bad when World war 2 started, their stadium was destroyed in the bombings and Manchester city were kind enough to let them play at their stadium Maine road at an annual fee of  £5000 and all gate receipts. Manchester united moved back to old Trafford in 1945 after the troubles and with this they appointed Sir Matt Busby as there manager. Matt Busby was the first manager that insisted that he pick the team and what players he wanted sign as this was traditionally left to the chairman. The risk of hiring Matt busby paid off as united as United finished second in the league between 1947-49 and they won the FA cup in 1948. The team continued playing with a weak team but Matt Busby set about rebuilding the team in the 1960s. The new recruits included United legends Denis Law and George Best. The new team became one of the most famous teams ever winning the clubs first European cup in 1968. Sir Matt Busby resigned as manager in 1969. United struggled to replace Busby and there three big players had moved on and they were relegated in 1973. Tommy Docherty was the current manager and they gained promotion the following year. Although Docherty was a successful manager he got involved in off the pitch scandals and was sacked as manager and replaced by Dave Sexton in 1977. Sexton was sacked in 1981 because of his boring style of football and replaced by the hot headed Ron Atkinson. Atkinson signed some of uniteds greatest ever players such as Bryan Robson, Gordan Strachan and Mark Hughes. Although a great start to the 1984-85 United collapsed and finished a disappointing fourth place. The bad form continued into the following season and Ron Atkinson was sacked. Sir Alex Ferguson took over Man Utd in 1986 and was giving the task of taking the club back to its former glory. In his first season they finished in 11th place and the pressure was mounting. Fergusons reign as United manager looked over in 1990 as united were not in contention for the league but thanks to Mark Hughes united went on to win the FA cup. Unforgettable Experience I still remember my first day of school in USA. It’s an unforgettable experience that I will always remember. In 2001 my family and I moved to USA, Arizona from India for better life and education. I was placed at 6th grade elementary school. First day of school for any student can be hard, but even hard for a student who doesn’t speak a word of English. Now, what made my first day of school so unforgettable was how I had to find my class, how I had to introduce myself to my new classmates, and how I tried to understand what the teacher was trying to teach.Reading a map and navigating the class location is quite hard for a 6th grader. Specially, for a student that’s in a new country and a new school like myself. I got off the bus and I have my school map on my hand trying to find where my class is. I am running one way to another holding my heavy backpack. Accidently, I ran into a girl. We both fell hard to the ground. I quickly got up an d helped her pick her stuff up and apologized. New forms of society, changing patronage, varying geographic conditions, all these things have gone to produce over the past five hundred years a succession of different schools, different styles, different pictorial idioms. But none of these has so altered the principles, so shaken the foundations of Western painting, as did Cubism. _ This statement put emphasis on the Cubist period, a time, which was of vast importance and developing style. Seeing the works and taking the time to understand them are two contributors that make these artists more significant. Picasso created a work in 1907, known as one of the century’s most important Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. Important in the sense that it moved other influential artists, but also because of deeper meaning in style and message. Although Picasso didn’t create his fully developed Cubist paintings in 1907, his work of that year instigated the cubist revolution. A brand-new approach representing space and the construction of form that was later a defying Cubists’ most important qualities. An important concept I learned understanding cubism understood the difference in experimental artists and conceptual artists. Experimental artists develop their contributions gradually and have a maturing style while conceptual artists put a more random thought provoked effort. Picasso’s initial goal was to describe knowledge of objects rather than their appearance. Before Demoiselles d’ Avignon, came a number of preparatory sketches. I was able to find a gallery of some sketches online, the most fascinating in my opinion. I noticed sketches from hard lines up to incorporation of color and later incorporation of instruments. I was greatly influenced by these sketches in my most recent works.

His first objective was to get France, or better, Louis XVI to formally recognize America as its own country. After that, he could then ask for assistance be it any of the three ms...men, munitions, or money. Direct and e marketing - Essay Example "The Internet is at once a world-wide broadcasting capability, a mechanism for information dissemination, and a medium for collaboration and interaction between individuals and their computers without regard for geographic location" (1). Furthermore, some kind of businesses cannot manage without the Internet technologies and e-commerce. This paper will argue that it is impossible to imagine modern marketing technologies such as direct and e-marketing without effective data protection and privacy laws. 2. Data protection and privacy laws play a very important role for business development today and determine the future development of direct and e-marketing. "Direct marketing is intrusive, both in relation to the privacy of personal behaviour, and into the privacy of personal data. The degree of sensitivity varies greatly, depending on the person, the data and the context" (2). Data protection and privacy laws vary in different countries, but there are some significant similarities concerning the issue. In the United States some data protection acts have been adopted. "Actions such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 (FACT) and The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLB Act) have combined to create a relatively thorough protection of both financial data and personal information" (3). Financial data and personal information protection are of great importance especially while using such marketing methods as direct marketing and e-marketing. Nonpublic personal information term is precisely determined and concerns many aspects of financial data, customer and seller information. "Nonpublic personal information collected includes, but is not limited to, data from the consumer, the consumer's transactions with a financial institution or its affiliate, from nonaffiliated third parties about the consumer's transactions with them and from credit reporting agencies" (3). This information is protected with the data protection acts indicated above. European Union has also recently adopted data protection principles. The 8th Data Protection principle provides that "Personal data must not be transferred to a country or territory outside the European Economic Area unless that country or territory has an adequate level of protection for the rights and freedoms of data subjects" (4). The UK also adopt data protection acts, but "Many are also commenting that the UK has inadequately implemented the Electronic Privacy Directive (2002/58 /EC), resulting in too lenient a treatment of persons who send unsolicited commercial email ('spam') in the UK" (4). So, the UK data protection policy needs to be improved, as well as in France: "The French Data Protection Authority, Commission Nationale de L'Infortmatique et des Liberts ("CNIL"), has ruled that an email service provided by Rampell Software, a Florida-based company, is illegal, as it breaches French data protection law" (4). But later, in May 2003, the UK legislation changed:" The most controversial aspect of the legal changes is the new regulatory regime for email marketing.
